When people ask how I got into the dog boutique biz, the answer is simple: I didn’t choose the dog life; the dog life chose me. Or maybe I just liked the wag of it — who knows? Some might say I’m barking mad, but I prefer to think of myself as a passionate aficionado of all things canine. After all, what else would prompt a perfectly sane human to jump into the wonderful (and occasionally muddy) world of dog boutique ownership where it’s all cosy dog jumpers, harnesses, leads, treats and beautiful gifts for humans too? 🐕‍🦺The Real Stars: Meet the Pooches Now, let’s introduce you to the stars of the show and my constant canine companions, known in our house as “the dogs who live like kings.” 🐾Sir Trumpsalot Sir Trumpsalot is my first furry friend and, frankly, the reason why my postie no longer rings twice! He’s a spirited lab with a flair for the dramatic and an ear-splitting gift for vocal performance. He’s taught me everything I know about perseverance, loyalty, and the surprising versatility of dog fur as an interior design feature. 🐾Lady Barksalot (AkA Dora or ‘stinkerbelle’) And then there’s Lady Barksalot, the queen of the couch and a steadfast connoisseur of belly rubs. With her soulful eyes and discerning palate (only the finest kibble for her), Lady Barksalot thinks she's a diva but is more likely to be found snoring mid-photo shoot. Her calming presence is the yin to Sir Trumpsalots yang. ❤️From Passion to Paw-sionate Business Inspired by my furry friends and their ever-growing collection of chew toys, dog coats, collars and leads I realized that alas, I had no choice but to open a boutique full of goodies fit for royalty. I noticed there was a gap in the market for dog accessories that were stylish, fun, and practical. Thus, Oh My Dog Conwy was born! Our mission? To ensure every pup has its day with dapper accessories, cozy comforts, and, of course, never-ending treats, and there’s always something exciting for humans too, we have a huge collection of dog mugs, breed specific bowl, note books, scarfs and bags. 🐕‍🦺 What to Expect on This Blog Here at Oh My Dog, the blog is our playground! You can expect to read about the latest trends in canine couture, DIY tricks for doggy toys, tales from the dog aisle, and maybe even the odd confession of how I once tried one of our dog chocolates (that’s a lie cos it wasn’t just once!). Conwy Seed Fair (March 26, 2025) This 800-year-old tradition is a must-visit! Stroll through Conwy’s historic streets while browsing local crafts, plants, and homemade goodies. Bring your pup along for a sniff around (just watch out for any tempting food stalls!). 2. Sausage Dog Socials Walk (Sunday 23rd March, 10am back of Lidl) Join fellow sausage dog lovers for a scenic group walk along Conwy’s coastal path into Conwy. It’s a fantastic way to socialize your pup while enjoying the fresh sea air. Plus, there’ll be treats for dogs and coffee for humans at the end at our wonderful Cantin Cafe —what’s not to love? 3. Conwy Pirate Weekend (May 10-11, 2025) Ahoy there! Conwy’s annual Pirate Weekend is back, and yes, dogs in pirate costumes are highly encouraged. Expect live music, boat battles, and lots of fun activities for the whole family (pups included!). It’s a perfect way to meet other sausage dog owners and fans, let your doxies socialise, and enjoy the stunning views along the seafront There’s on-street parking and a car park nearby, and after the walk, why not pop by our lovely café Cantin for a coffee, pup-cake or a bite to eat? These walks are always free and fun—and we love seeing so many wagging tails! Oh My Dog is back with another tail-wagging adventure, and this time we’re hitting the coast 🌭 Sausage Dog Social Walk – Sunday, 27th April 10am Join us for our next Sausage Dog Social Walk on Sunday, 27th April. We’ll be meeting at Porth Eirias in Colwyn Bay and strolling along the promenade into the heart of Rhos-on-Sea. Muddy Paws, Cosy Jumpers & Dogs Who Refuse to Walk in the Rain! 🍂🐾 The ultimate autumn survival guide for dog owners – from Oh My Dog Conwy. Let’s be honest. Autumn with a dog is a whole different experience. One minute you’re enjoying a beautiful walk through crunchy golden leaves, and the next you’re standing in the pouring rain, holding a lead attached to a dog who has suddenly decided they don’t do bad weather. Sound familiar? 😂 Here at Oh My Dog Conwy, we’re officially embracing cosy season. Think warm fleeces, muddy paws, snuggly evenings and enough natural treats to convince even the most stubborn sausage dog that leaving the sofa might actually be worth it. 1. The Great Autumn Walk Debate ☔ Some dogs absolutely LOVE autumn. Muddy puddles? Brilliant. Wet grass? Even better. Others (we’re looking at you, dachshunds) take one look outside and immediately reverse back under the duvet. But whatever your dog’s opinion on the weather, autumn walks can still be wonderful with a little preparation. A cosy fleece or jumper can help keep your dog comfortable as temperatures start to drop, particularly if they’re small, short-haired or feel the cold easily. And let’s face it, looking ridiculously cute is an added bonus. 2. Muddy Paws Are Part of the Package If you’re a dog owner, you’ll know that keeping your floors clean between October and March is basically a full-time job. You can spend an hour cleaning the house, only for your dog to come bounding through the door looking like they’ve just completed an obstacle course in a swamp. Our advice? Keep a towel by the door, have your dog’s cosy essentials ready and accept that muddy paw prints are now part of your interior design. 3. Be Seen on Those Darker Walks The evenings might be getting darker, but your dog clearly hasn’t agreed to shorter walks. A Twiggy Tags safety light helps make them easier to spot, while the light-up ball means less time searching for a missing ball in the fading light. Pair with reflective accessories and choose safe, well-lit routes for your autumn adventures. 4. Autumn Adventures Need Snacks! We’re firm believers that every good dog walk should involve snacks. Not necessarily for us (although a coffee and cake stop never goes amiss), but definitely for our four-legged companions. Natural dog treats are brilliant for rewarding good behaviour, practising recall and keeping curious noses occupied. At Oh My Dog, we love treats that are 100% natural, with no unnecessary nasties. And for dogs who take their snacking responsibilities particularly seriously, we even have a monthly natural treat subscription box. Because running out of dog treats should never be an option. 5. A Little Autumn Safety Reminder 🍁 Those beautiful autumn walks can come with a few hidden hazards. Conkers, acorns and some wild mushrooms can be dangerous if eaten by dogs, so keep an eye on curious pups who enjoy picking up absolutely everything they find. With the evenings getting darker, it’s also worth making sure your dog is easy to see when you’re out walking. And after those muddy woodland adventures, give their paws and coat a quick check before settling in for the evening. 6. The Best Part of Autumn? Coming Home. There’s something lovely about getting back from a chilly walk, putting the kettle on and watching your dog curl up in their favourite spot. Well, your favourite spot. Which is now their spot. Along with your blanket, your cushion and approximately 85% of the sofa. Would we have it any other way? Absolutely not.
